So Brian was the Utopian full-time eh? No wonder he’s having a hard time readjusting-it’s like being laid off from your FT job after several years, with no hope of getting another in that field. I’d be bummed out too.

But does being a full-time Metahero draw a wage in this universe? If not, did his lover pay the bills?

Great question! Although I’ve never addressed it, Brian’s dad Elect is quite wealthy, and he set up a trust fund that Brian lives off of. The penthouse suite was paid for Brian, and furnished by Louis. Lois is now a successful stage actor, but before that he had a lot of lean years.

Oh dear. Is Daddy going to keep financing a deflated meta-son? Given how he doesn’t seem impressed with non-metas, I could see him getting the “failure son” syndrome and brushing him off. That could be a problem when Utopian gets his powers back.

This really opens up a few interesting possible plot points. I look forward to seeing where this is going.

Utopian could end up in John Underhall’s employ as JS3 before he gets his powers back, if at all. If I remeber correctly, Utopian does not know about the family ties between JS1 and Dr. Synn, so in a possible future scene we could see JS3 (FKA Utopian) tutoring the next Underhall generation to have Dr. Synn walk in and the (meta-)kids go “Grandpa!”.

Heh, not sure if having everyone who needs a new ident to fight crime to become JS is such a good idea. Kinda makes JS a title/mask that gets passed around just to keep someone called JS around.

Utopian could learn to appreciate what it is like to be a civilian for a while. Maybe pick up some new skills and knowledge along the way.

Would love to see JU coming back as JS though :P

Another thing, Utopian does know JS1 and Dr.Synn’s ties, see book 4 page 22. http://johnnysaturn.com/2007/04/18/book-four-page-22/

Going back to college could be great, but could also be a way of painting a target on Brain’s back, unless no one can recognize him without his muscles.

@Demosthenes Locke I was thinking the same thing. Elect seems to have a psuedo-fascist thing going—such people are not fond of signs of weakness. That it’s his own son would only make it worse. Of course, Brian has a mother, too. She might step in and pull Elect up short.

Unless Elect is the nice one of the family.

Well, since she’s involved in charity work I sort of assumed she was the nice one.

Could be wrong, though. “Mrs. Elect” could simply enjoy hanging around the sickly and unfortunate so she can snicker at them. That, too, has been done before.

Charity work doesn’t mean jack. The BTK killer was a pillar of the community, afterall. And I’m sure Synn has a few donations to local charities in his portfolio, as tax breaks and something to brighten up his image.

Or the ‘charity work’ could just be a cover for whoever the latest fling is.

Ok, so maybe I’ve read too many mystery plots…

Heh, I say she is too busy with her charity to care about what her son or husband is up to, unless they start causing trouble for her charity.
