Seconded. Or maybe it should be another shape of the speach bubble. He does not look like he is shouting.
Oh, and for me personally the seconc panel would look better if the spine of the the speach bubble would not enter the bubble on the left site but from below. If you would use the exact same spine like in the first panel it would be perfect.
This way it looks a little bit strange for me (but I am a Spine-and-Speach-Bubble-And-How-And-Where-You-Should-Place-Them-In-The-Correct-Way-Nazi anyway. *g*)
I like Joe’s “you’re serious” line. He’s not shouting. It’s an intense statement, but it’s the sort that you don’t have to shout, but the power is still there. I dig it.
Seems reasonable. Why would he evacuate the buildings before the spell destroyed them, only to kill them a few minutes or hours later? It could have been a trick, but the Utopian considers him a friend so it’s not like gambling the outcome with a total stranger in a costume who just showed up and started doing this stuff.
You were darn close, and that’s why I didn’t comment. I just didn’t want to give it away. I wanted to avoid the cliches, such as breaking a magical hold on Joe, or shocking him into memory of who he really is, or beating him to a pulp, or whatever.
S’okay. I’ve been accused of mindreading the writer before (I guess in this case it’s an almost mind-read). I’m kind of used to it, and I’d never want to jostle someone’s arm.
And yes, I think you have, as much as they can be avoided. Which is a difficult thing to do, sometimes, and still remain within a genre.
But, Random Guy, that’s when I grew up! Logan’s Run and Battlestar Galactica and Space 1999. I watched them all. When I was a kid, the original three year run of classic Star Trek was still going. My earliest memory of TV was Scottie in the Jeffries Tube surrounded by lightning. So, my influences show, I’m afraid.
Very Very Excellent. Not normal run of the mill at all. This well, if i was Brian and I had done what he did….I feel like i would do wqhat he is doing. No reverse pycho babble nope….just THIS time, answering my Brother’s needs.
8/10 on the guilt trip scale imho.
Thanks, DWwolf!
ps. IMHO the last panel of Joe would be stronger without the ” you’re serious” bit.

Well, something must be done, then. Arne, I’m not sure I follow what you mean about the “spine” of the balloons.
I like Joe’s “you’re serious” line. He’s not shouting. It’s an intense statement, but it’s the sort that you don’t have to shout, but the power is still there. I dig it.
When he says ‘spine’, I think Arne’s talking about the tail of the speech balloon in the second panel.
That was exactly what I meant, Weshtery! So “tail” is the correct word for it. I couldn’t remember what it was when I wrote this post.

Absolutely. And, while I haven’t mentioned it in the comic for a long time, Joe and Brian grew up together and went to the same school. It’s personal.
Like I said, Bryan’s reverse ps’sycology-izing Joe.
Okay, that’s not exactly like what I said, but close enough. Anyway, all props to Shawn Ogg, Army, or at least Royal Guard, of one.

Woo, futuristic architecture ala-1970.

I loke the turn this is taking. No one is evil for its own sake, and the city will be the fashion hotspot of the world.

And btw…the “you’re serious” bubble is not a shout (not to me) more like a shocked tone of voice.
And then Underhall shoots him! I have REALLY enjoyed this turn of events. I also like that the boys have not been too puppetered.
Thanks, Dustin! I didn’t want to mind control Joe around, it had to be real.
