Hi, Folks!

Item: I recently discovered the forums over at webcomics.com. This community looks to be shaping up into a pretty useful webcomics thinktank, so I suggest checking it out.

Item: I’m going to revamp my portfolio site that promotes me as an illustrator. It hasn’t done much for me lately, so I’m considering making it less formal. Instead of just showing off my best finished work, also showing works in progress, sketchbook material, figure drawing from open studios, watercolors, and the like. Plus, I am going to make more of an effort to push myself as a fantasy artist. I think it’s time for a change.

Item: I think that after I’m done with all my current work, and I get a good buffer built back up on Johnny Saturn, I’m going to start taking commissions. I will probably limit myself to fantasy commissions, or those that do not infringe on other parties’ copyrights. I’ve had a longstanding rule that I don’t draw other comic book characters unless I’m commissioned by the character’s owner—That costs me money, no doubt, but I can live with myself.

Item: I recently found an old hardcover book, “Frank Cho: Illustrator.” For those who don’t already know, this guy is a monster talent. From funny animal cartooning, to classic pen & ink, to modern superhero comics, to cheesecake, this guy has pretty much mastered it all. If you aren’t already a fan of Frank Cho, I suggest you check out his work pronto.

I’m going to start taking commissions soon, so if you have something you’d like me to draw shoot me an email.  I try to stay away from drawing comic characters owned by other people (such as Marvel or DC), but that still leaves characters from Johnny Saturn, characters in public domain, your own original characters, monsters, whatever.

The public domain covers a huge cast of characters, from the Black Terror or Fantomah, to Dracula, the Frankenstein monster, dragons, werewolves, Hercules, Artemis, etc.  I have a long pedigree in fantasy art too.

I know some of you have been interested in buying Johnny Saturn shirts, and that’s coming quite soon.

I’m busy rendering that block of pages that were flatted but not fully colored from last year, at the end of issue 10 and the beginning of issue 11.  This is what has held me up from publishing issues 10 and 11, as well as getting the second trade paperback ready for publication.  But, it will happen!

As you can tell, we have all sorts of activity going on at Story Studios, LLC.

I’m really proud to announce that our “Johnny Saturn” Store has gone live.

This means that the single page store that was formerly on this site is gone, replaced by the much more expansive “Johnny Saturn” Store site.

In addition to our comics and graphic novels, we are also selling original art and shirts. Comics are available as single issues, or in combo packs.

As original art goes, so far we have the pages from issue one posted for sale. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be adding art on up through issue 13.

In the near to intermediate future, we are also going to offer one-of-a-kind commissions, Scott Story sketchbooks, and digital versions of our books in various formats (pdf, cbr, etc.)

As the store develops, it is also our plan to ad professional grade posters and buttons.
