Iv’e fixed the buckled faceplate of that twelve-string guitar I kept talking about, it took weeks, with lots of humidifying and a liberal use of an iron. Now I just need to glue it back up. The guitar tech that told me it couldn’t be done (read: “wasn’t worth his time”) can go spin on a pole. I did it myself. There’s a classic rock song I promised to learn if I could fix it, so that’s closer now.
I’ve also been painting some portrait studies, and they are coming out pretty well. I’ll post them if they look good.
I added to my toy train collection with a vintage Marusam Bulldog engine that is battery powered, and a Marx wind-up engine that is unusually complete and in working order from the 1930’s.
I even got a miniature anvil to remind me how much I used to enjoy blacksmithing.
I’ve been tuning out news agencies from both sides of the spectrum, only fallowing the “fair and balanced” crowd, and I think that has done a lot to lift the existential dread I’d been living with. I’m still a proud liberal, but I don’t want people blasting their pain at me all the time.
After the election, I cancelled all my subscription to the left leaning press outlets, because I felt betrayed. They had portrayed a much rosier picture of our chances, and it only made the results that much more painful. I don’t need them. I don’t trust them anymore, and I doubt I ever will again.
